Designers Guild (powered by the artistic vision of Tricia Guild and known for very colorful large scale prints and a kind of hyper-stylized take on “shabby chic”) has – as I explored this evening – a very satisfying and easy to navigate website that also actually sells things on-line, a rare thing for a company primarily geared to a trade-only market. And not only do they sell things on-line, they also have sales on-line, wherein items like the above blanket are offered at considerable discount.

Anupama works with Indian artisans and craftsman to create a beautiful – and eclectic – line of hand-printed and hand-painted fabrics, table cloths and pillows, including some replete with meditating Buddhas.

The most recent New York Times Style Magazine (“Travel Spring 2009″) has a a two page spread on 77 year old Rosita Missoni – the energy behind the Missoni brand – chronicling her decades long career designing clothes saturated with color and pattern. Missoni Home is a more recent incarnation of the brand, with a website that doesn’t give you the satisfaction of seeing items produced within the line. Instead there’s a list of retailers and dealers. Though Google searches bring back some on-line offerings it looks like the best way to see the collection is in person, in the store.

A new line of incredibly soft 100% Alpaca cloth (lined with Merino wool) is now available “to the trade” from Sandra Jordan in a drool-worthy array of saturated colors. A great material for bedding and throws — or anything else made better by the words “soft” and “cuddly”. Above, a scan of the colorway Daffodil.

A big thank-you to Design Sponge for turning readers like me onto Nandini Textiles — beautiful batik / India inspired bedding (and clothing – ). Their about page is “coming soon” so I can’t say much more!

A little bit of textile-related enticement from the November 2008 Anthropologie catalog. (I always fall for the spare interiors / exuberantly patterned fabric combo.) Click here to for a link to the bedding.

Another good find in a popular magazine – this time Domino, August ‘08 issue – for fair trade, textile related products. Pillow Dreams Project imports pillow cases and other items from developing countries and donates half their profits to organizations that help children in those countries.

A beautiful website full of great textiles made in a sustainable way. (Check out the site’s “flip book” and the bio on company founder Mary Mulcahy for added inspiration.)
