The October issue of The World of Interiors is out (always full of things you’d never see in American magazines, plus really quirky art direction). There’s a nice introduction to “Khadi”, a type of simple cotton made in India (hadn’t heard of it before). Hello – I have also been googling khadi cotton and have seen this article.
Does anyone know of any online shop selling khadi – wraps etc.?
Hi Glynda – as you’ve likely found there are a few shops that pop up when googling khadi cotton but most of these sell traditional Indian shirts in khadi cotton (for both men and women). The only site I’ve found that sells khadi shawls doesn’t show a photo of the item, making the $39 investment a bit more risky. I suppose it’s possible that there is no market in the US for khadi, it just breaks my heart. I want to buy it by the yard, every different category, from the finest, gossamer cotton for summer shirts, to a sturdy silk for vests. I also like to use the various weights of silk as linings.
If anyone finds a source of kahdi by the yard, or meter, please let me know. I would be very grateful.

You mentioned Bess Nielsen as a shop owner in Paris. Can you please tell me what the shop is called? I purchased several beautiful textiles by Epice, which I think is her company. The shop in New York I originally bought them from has closed. I have lost one piece I would love to replace. Thank you, Barbara

I don’t have a copy of the article that inspired my post about khadi but the blog http://www.deuxfrontieres.blogspot.com also has a post about Nielsen and writes: “Khadi + Co is a lovely boutique in the Marais which is run by Danish textile designer, Bess Nielsen.” Sorry I don’t know more but that’s a start at least
